LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Brad Kern, executive producer of "Charmed," says that he's not getting any respect from The WB. Kern argued that "Charmed," a show about three sisters who are witches, is the net's second-highest-rated show, yet it hasn't gotten its share of attention from the Frog, according to the New York Post.
"I'm frustrated by the lack of promos and publicity - they don't promote us like they do their other shows," said Kern. "We're the No. 2 show on the network . . . but we don't get mentioned in the same breath as 'Buffy,' 'Angel' or 'Dawson's Creek.'" In addition, Kern added that the net "rarely mentions us when they talk about their top shows."
"Charmed" stars Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty and Holly Marie Comes as the Holliwell sisters, who use their witch powers to fight demons and other evil doers. Kern's comments were made while hyping this Thursday's episode, "Sleuthing With the Enemy," where Phoebe (Milano) learns of her boyfriend's true identity.
"This is the end of an eight-episode arc, where there are changes in the sisters' lives that will affect the show forever," Kern says. "But we've only been on once in the last five weeks. It's a source of great frustration for me and for the entire show."
"Charmed" has averaged approximately 5.8 million viewers this season, making it The WB's second-highest-rated show after "7th Heaven," which averages 8.2 million viewers. The numbers are even more impressive given the fact that "Charmed" airs in a tough timeslot, Thursdays at 9 p.m. -- opposite NBC's "Must-See Thursday's" "Will & Grace" and ABC's ratings powerhouse, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." A WB spokesman responded to Kern's accusations, saying that the net was giving the series as much promotion as is available.
"On a network like ours, which generates a lot of attention in the media, there becomes some jealousies between programs as to which one is getting the most favorable treatment," said the spokesman. "[Kern] is right and he's wrong. On the one hand, there's never enough promotion for one show . . . but there's only so much promotion that can be divided up. 'Charmed' is clearly our key show on Thursdays and its ratings have never been higher. So something must be going right."
